Congratulation Gerard !

Our very own Gerard Dumas returns from the Reno Pole Vault Summit where he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award in front of a capacity crowd of 2000 from around the world that were attending this annual prestigious event.  French champion in the 1950s, for over 10 years Gerard was nationally ranked as an athlete in Canada’s top ten following his immigration in the early 1960s. Gerard has coached with Vic Track since 1966…and continues to this day. Now in his 80s, Gerard has jumped continuously since 1948 and has over 1100 competitions under his belt.  Over the years his athletes have been on national teams to the Olympics, Commonwealth and Pan-am games, as well as national, provincial and high school champions.  Without Gerard, pole vault in Victoria would not be what it is, and many of us would never have been introduced to this event. Howard Joe, one of the clubs masters athletes also attending at Reno (ranked #2 in Canada in 2016) provided the following video of the presentation in Reno. Please join me in congratulating Gerard!

2016 Fall and 2017 Spring Training Program

Hi everyone. Here we are again, getting ready for the 2017 track and field season and I would like to let you know some information regarding the new season.  Vic Track and Pacific Athletics will be working together again this season. The goal is to eventually have one club using the best from both.

The clubs will provide assistance for parents wishing to take the basic track and field coaching course and commit to coaching at our practices. This will allow the clubs to increase the cap on athlete spaces available.  We are hoping to host a course in Victoria early April and have it go Saturday and Sunday instead of the usual Friday afternoon through Sunday.
Our JD/Midget registration fees will consist of 3 levels.

  1. Competitive membership with $100 of meet fees prepaid. Includes the mandatory BC Athletics competitive membership fee and $100 of meet fees, managed by the club on your behalf. Cost: $375.00

  1. Competitive membership including mandatory BC Athletics competitive membership fee, and families pay for meet fees as the meets occur. Cost $275.00

  1. Training membership, including mandatory BC Athletics training membership fee. Athletes attend any practices. If an athlete wants to attend a meet, families pay day of meet fees to the meet host club, or pay for BC Athletics fee upgrade from training to competitive (For BC Athletics membership upgrades, contact the club registrar). Cost $200.00

Entry to the Dogwood meet in Victoria will be free to Pacific Athletics and Vic Track athletes, usually it is $7-10 per event. In return for this our families are required to volunteer in helping run the meet. Vic Track has a comprehensive list of positions and will provide guidance in these jobs to both Clubs (more to come later).
Practices are slated to be at the same time and place as last year:

6:15-7:45pm Tuesday and Thursday at UVic, from Tuesday April 4th 2017 through Thursday June 29th 2017.

On occasion Uvic will be booked and on those days we will use Oak Bay Track. This year we will continue to model the 10-12 year olds along the Long Term Athlete Development model where they are required to practice all events. 13 and up can begin to drop an event or two. There will be a little less throwing at the Tuesday and Thursday practices, with those wanting to throw able to attend a Saturday morning practice at Oak Bay for throwing events.

Welcome to the website of the Victoria Track and Field Club. We are a non-profit competitive track and field club which has been in existence in Victoria for over 50 years. The club is involved in training athletes, coaches and officials in the Greater Victoria area.

The Victoria Track and Field Club is a registered society and we rely on our parents and volunteers to assist in the organization of club events and training.

Our club has two main training groups:

  • Track and Field is general track and field training for athletes ages 9 and older.
  • Pole Vault training goes on all year with indoor training at Oak Bay Secondary School in the fall and winter and outdoor training at Centennial Stadium at the University of Victoria in the spring and summer.

Our club is a member of the Vancouver Island Athletic Association [VIAA] which is an informal association of all the competitive track and field clubs located on Vancouver Island and Powell River [Zone 6]. Members assist the other clubs in hosting and officiating at the VIAA Track and Field Series ~ a series of 4 to 6 track meets held from April to June each year.
