Our
club training sessions are held at the Oak Bay Secondary School
track and field facility on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30
pm to 7:30 pm with start and finish times varying throughout the
year. Visitors and those interested in joining the club are welcome
to come out and meet with us at the track but please check first to
see that training is scheduled for the night you wish to
attend.
The
Victoria Track and Field Club is a registered society and we rely
on our parents and volunteers to assist in the organization of club
events and training.
Our
club has several main training groups:
- Junior
Development is general track and field training for athletes ages 9
to 14.
- Our
Middle Distance Group [Advanced Training Group] is for athletes 14
and up who combine training in middle distance and cross country in
the fall and winter with track and field training in the spring and
summer.
- Pole
Vault training goes on all year with indoor training at Oak Bay
Secondary School in the fall and winter and outdoor training at
Centennial Stadium at the University of Victoria in the spring and
summer.
- Racewalk
training for our walkers is mainly during the spring and summer
competition season. Our advanced racewalk athletes also move to
cross country training for winter conditioning.
- Cross
Country training is in the wet season from early fall to late
spring and is used for conditioning as well as cross country
competitions for our athletes.
Our
club is a member of the Vancouver Island Athletic Association
[VIAA] which is an informal association of all the competitive
track and field clubs located on Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands
and Powell River [Zone 6]. Members assist the other clubs in
hosting and officiating at the two series hosted by the VIAA: the
VIAA Track and Field Series ~ a series of 5 to 7 track meets held
from April to June each year and the VIAA Cross Country Series ~ a
series of 5 to 6 cross country races held in two parts, late fall
and early spring.
